FOREX London Session Video January 14, 2008

With a cue from USD/JPY starting to drop late in the Moscow session, we were able to build a trade plan on the weak British Pound and Yen as well. The GBP/JPY had bounced off of a 61.8 Fibonacci retracement Friday, filled a tiny gap from Sunday, and was then hovering around it’s 38.2 today. With the USD/JPY diving, building a plan to short the GBP/JPY seemed valid since it had not yet taken off as the USD/JPY had. Using Fibonacci retracement/extensions, bollinger bands, stochastics, and daily/weekly pivot points we were able to build a solid low risk high reward plan. The we simply did a ‘Ride the 5′ ema all the way to our 138.2 Fib extension for a sweet 200-225 pip trade. Does not get much more straightforward than this.

Monday’s news theme was purchasing manager surveys. On Wednesday, the theme is the same, only the target has changed, as we now switch from Monday’s focus on manufacturing to the much larger services sector. The European session will see the release of May’s UK Services PMI number, followed by ISM’s Non-Manufacturing Index more than five hours later. Euro zone retail sales, the latest US employment figures from ADP report, and the EIA’s weekly oil inventories report round out a news-packed trading day.

At the open of today’s European session, major central banks announced a coordinated move to improve liquidity conditions in the global financial markets. The EUR/USD rose in response and managed to break above resistance of the 100-pip range which had defined the pair’s previous 12 hours of price action. A 100-pip trade was the outcome for traders who executed a long trade entry at the re-test of resistance, then took profit at the daily M4 pivot point.
